Choosing The Right Recording Studio Tools

Wednesday, December 30th, 2009

Music recording capabilities and technologies have evolved and changed dramatically over the last few years as heavy mixing boards and other equipment have been replaced, or at least supplemented by portable laptop computers and software programs like ProTools and others.

You may be wondering which types of equipment to buy, whether you need to purchase recording software, and how to set up your own studio to help you take your recording abilities and expertise to the next level. The good news is that you may not even need to buy very many pieces of large, bulky equipment at all. The majority of new laptops are powerful enough to run sophisticated recording software that can easily take the place of traditional equipment, and can allow you to have a mobile recording studio as well.

If you have never used recording software like DigiDesign Pro Tools,Steinbergs Cubase, Apples Logic, Cakewalks Sonar or Abletons Live before, you might want to consider taking a class or receiving online instruction and support. These software programs contain many features, so many that even people who have been using them for years often realize that there were features that they were not aware of until after taking a course. There are many websites that offer online support and instruction, depending on the type of software that you purchase. One of the best ways to familiarize yourself with your recording studio software however is to experiment on your own. It goes without saying that you should get in quite a few practice sessions before you attempt to do a live recording.

Whether or not you decide to create a physical studio in a fixed location is up to you. It may not be necessary if you are planning on traveling a lot, but you will still want to have some basic equipment, including a few high quality microphones. If you are anticipating working on recording projects that will require multiple sessions and or if you are not anticipating that you will be traveling very much, you may want to think about a combination mobile and traditional studio. You can still use your software for the bulk of the work, but you will have the benefit of actual physical equipment as well, and know that you will have a dedicated space to work on your projects.

Regardless of the type of studio that you opt for, you should plan on investing in a powerful laptop computer and a high quality recording software program. You will be surprised to discover all of the truly creative and innovative things that you will be able to incorporate into your recording projects when you use one

If you are interested in music production such as sound mixing, recording or any other, the best thing you can use to give you that professional experience is the Pro Tools suite. Pro Tools is the standard professional music production software and the training would be very useful to you. You can go to a suitable Pro Tools school to learn how to make use of this system and by attending the Pre Tools classes; you can practice using it perfectly. Many professionals use this software which comes in different versions such as the Pro Tools LE and M Powered.

You will have to select an appropriate Pro Tools school you go to since you need certification at the end of your course which has to be legit. In the Pro Tools classes you will learn the basic skills first which should guide you on how to go about using the software before you can move on to and learn how to use it for audio files to import, compress, edit and mix.

At the end of the training you will have learnt to be fast and efficient and have a general experience on more professional productions including those for TV and Film. Speed is meant to help you know how to manage deadlines in the industry. You will be given real world projects to use the Pro Tools software for production to gauge your competency as a music recording technician.

Pro Tools classes can be taken online and you can sign up with a suitable school if you can and learn from there. You will find excellent online tutors to guide you through the course. If you cannot go to a Pro tools school, you can find the tutorials in form of DVDs and use them for self learning but if you are someone who cannot learn on his/her own, then a class will be perfect. The tutorials are always in levels so that you can start with level one if you are a beginner and proceed to the other levels once you get what it is all about.

Cubase Music Production Tools

Tuesday, December 29th, 2009

Cubase is the most widely-used sequencing program in the world with well over one million registered users. Designed for professionals from the ground up, Cubase converges extraordinary sound quality, intuitive handling and a vast range of highly advanced audio and MIDI tools for composition, recording, editing and mixing.

The first version of Cubase appeared in 1989 for the Atari ST computer although the programmer, Charlie Steinberg who gave his name to the company, had been creating sequencers for the Commodore 64 and Atari since the early 80s.

The release of Cubase in 1993 on the Atari Falcon was a breakthrough in DSP software technology as realtime manipulation of audio was possible without the assistance of additional processor cards, as was the case with the more costly Pro Tools and other similar systems. Cubase also sports a well-designed and fully functional midi and score editor, which seems to come as an afterthought in many sequencers even Pro Tools. If you want to record and tweak the sound with Cubase’s native reverbs, eq and dynamics, all of the tools of the trade are there and much more improved from a graphic user interface standpoint.

Now owned by Yamaha, Steinberg is greatly benefiting from the music giants ownership. After all Yamaha is the largest musical instruments manufacturer in the world.

Designed for professionals from the ground up, Cubase 4 sets a new standard for integrated music production software by combining powerful audio and MIDI recording, synthesis, editing, mixing and effects. The brand new VST3 effect plug-in set and new first-class VST instruments are only the beginning. There are also new VST instruments, including three outstanding new synthesizers (Prologue, Spector and Mystic as well as HALion One sample player with hundreds of new instruments based on Yamaha Motif waveform), and the new Instrument Track class accelerates handling of VST Instruments and combines MIDI and plug-in automation within the same track.

Tailored for composers, musicians and project studios as well as students and educators, Cubase Studio 4 still offers professional music production technology thanks to a high-quality set of essential tools, but at a lower price point than Cubase 4.

Customers who purchase Cubase 4 will find additional advanced features required for the final production phases including surround support, full Control Room functionality and specialised plug-ins and tools for creating a final mixdown.

These music tools will allow you to write tunes in a way that more directly relates to musical notation. But the input may instead be one of the time value reporters included in the Music Tools. Pro Tools MP3 OptionBy including the Pro Tools MP3 Option, the Music Production Toolkit makes it easy to listen to a new mix on a portable device or quickly share it with other band members without having to use a separate application. We all need the proper tools to create music, and by “tools” I don’t mean acertain brand of instrument or amplifier, but rather the music we hear inside.

In Summary Cubase in my opinion at least is the Dewalt Power tool of the production world. Powerful and Reliable.

Music Production Software: All the tools you need to get started

Tuesday, December 29th, 2009

At first glance, it can seem overwhelming to dive head first into the world of music production software. There are many options available to the aspiring digital music producer, and you should be made aware of them before making a decision. There are certain features that make some software and systems better than others. My goal is to give you a solid introduction to the world of music production software.

The first thing you want to think about is what do you want to do with your music production software? Are you a game developer who needs to make sounds or a soundtrack for a game? Are you just looking to start making your own beats? Are you a beginner who would benefit from coaching or video instruction? Many questions should be considered before buying music production software.

Many of the people who ask me for advice on music production studio suites are just people who have a creative flare and want to get started making their own beats. If you are a person who wants to start making your own beats as a hobby, or even want to make money from it, then read on. If you are already a beat producing master, then you probably do not need this advice and probably wouldn’t be reading this in the first place.

There are two primary categories of music production software: online and offline. Both have their benefits but I would recommend making your own beats online. The reason is simplicity. Online music production software such as Sonic Producer cut down on the fluff and deliver value beyond just the software. Most sites selling point is their music sequencer. See, Sonic Producer has excellent music sequencing software with 16 tracks, 8 dj pads, instrument capability, mp3 export capability, and more, but none of that matters when you realize what else they offer.

I feel like my beat making skills increased exponentially every day that I spent watching those videos. They don’t try to sell you any extra stuff either… you get the membership and you get EVERYTHING.. the award winning music production software and all the extras I just mentioned. For somebody who really wants to improve their skills, but doesn’t want to learn a ton of technicael audio knowledge, I highly recommend starting with Sonic Producer.

Don’t get me wrong, other programs have their place, but I would suggest having a few years of experience under your belt, and mastering a simplified, affordable piece of software before moving onto the $1000 behemoth’s that make up most music production software. After you have made some beats, the Sonic Producer community will help you reach potential artists to sell or license them to. In my opinion, membership to their site is the best value around.

For only $29.95 you get more than a head start: you get blasted out of a cannon into the music production world. Even if you hate it, they’ll give you all your money back… seriously. Their customer service is top notch. I’ve provided you with links throughout this article and down below if you are interested in learning more about the benefits of online beat making: everything you need to know about music production software. Welcome to the world of making your own beats!
